Review of Borrowed Machine

Earlier this month, I wrote about my sewing machine having an issue.  Well, it was making a noise ever since.  I decided to bring it to the shop.  While there, my sister loaned me her new machine.

Over the summer her beau, with my assistance, purchased my sister a sewing machine.  I had been discussing a purchase for my sister with Carolyn at Victorian Cupboard.  She recommended the Husqvarna Viking Emerald 118.  It’s a basic machine, which is all my sister needs.

I have been using this machine for the past couple of days.  It’s a great little machine.  Of course, my sister neglected to send the manual along with the machine.  I found I did not need it.  I was able to figure out how to set the stitched to the way I like them.  I prefer my stitch length to be a bit shorter than most while piecing quilts.  I prefer a 2 mm stitch over the standard 2.5.

The needle up/down button works a bit differently than my old Viking #1+. But I soon fell into a rhythm using it.  When you press the needle down button the needle automatically goes down.  Pressing the pedal once will move the needle up then immediately back down.  If you want the needle up, you need to press the needle position button again.   My machine will start in the up position and stop in the needle down.   If I tap my machine pedal, the needle will go up and stay up. Tap the pedal again it goes back down.

She also only gave me the basic foot. Even though we purchased a 1/4″ foot. No worries. My 1/4″ foot fit her machine.  So we were in business.

All in all, this is a nice little machine.  I would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice simple machine.
